The field guide to the grasshoppers of Central Europe by Heiko Bellmann has inspired many of the present European orthopterists. Florin Rutschmann, Christian Roesti and Axel Hochkirch have actualised this important work and expanded the geographical scope, now also including parts of northern Italy and the Balkan. In total 284 species are treated.
